Our History
Capita Registrars’ roots date back to the 1930s and 1940s. Over the years various registration businesses were acquired and eventually consolidated in 1991 to form Independent Registrars Group Limited.
In the 1990s Independent Registrars Group Limited (renamed IRG plc) purchased several businesses including:
• Bacon and Woodrow Share Schemes, forming IRG Trustees Ltd.
• A Driver and Sons, providing printing services.
• Barclays Registrars.
• Market Software Limited, providing share registration software.
• Price Waterhouse Coopers Registrars in Ireland.
• Royal Exchange Trust Co. Ltd.
In April 2000, The Capita Group Plc purchased IRG plc to form Capita IRG Plc. Following the purchase, Capita IRG Plc rebranded its various businesses to form:
• Capita Registrars, providing share registration and associated services in the UK.
• Capita Corporate Registrars, expanding national coverage to Ireland.
• Capita IRG Trustees Ltd, a Financial Services Authority authorised and regulated business.
• Capita Printing Services, providing security, commercial and digital print and mail services.
• Capita Share Plan Services, providing share plan administration and SIPs.
Further strategic acquisitions made by Capita IRG Plc in the early 2000s include:
• Bastow Charleton Ltd in Ireland.
• Royal & Sun Alliance Trust Company Limited to form Capita Trust Company Ltd. with operations in Jersey, Guernsey and London.
• City Financial Group to become Capita Financial Group – providing an extensive range of administration solutions to the collective investment scheme industry.
In September 2007, Capita IRG Plc changed its name to Capita Registrars Limited.
We are a leading player in the share registration market in both the United Kingdom and Ireland.
